Graduate Bio:
Tara Acevedo, an artist, dancer, and teacher, began designing jewelry in 1998 by taking several classes at a local bead store in Berkeley, CA. Little did she know that those classes would be the beginning of a new career path.

Tara worked as a Public Health Studies Coordinator for the University of California for nearly five years after graduating from UC Berkeley in 1997. She enjoyed her work but knew that deep down inside she had a passion and calling for the world of art and dance. Growing up, she was surrounded by an artistic family which is why she always felt so connected to colors, designs, shapes, and textures of semi-precious stones.

In 2001, after receiving much praise, interest, and support for her products from co-workers, family and friends, Tara decided to take the leap from employee to business owner. Later that year, Treasues by Tara, hand-made, one-of-a-kind and limited edition semi-precious stone jewelry was founded.

The first year of business was very turbulent. However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel when Tara found Women's Initiative. Prior to discovering Women's Initiative her business was without direction. After attending Women's Initiative courses she learned about targeted marketing, advertising, cash-flow projections, and business planning. Now she has a direction and plan for the business and the tools necessary to make it happen. While taking courses at Women's Initiative, Tara also started a second business, Social Salsa, and began to combine earning an income with her second love and passion...SALSA DANCE.
