Graduate Bio:
Rubber Ducky Soap Co. has been making natural
handcrafted skincare to sell at local Bay
Area farmer's markets, craft fairs and at
her online store since 1997. Kelly uses
only the finest ingredients for her soaps,
lotions, body wash & other body products.
Each product is made from scratch from all
vegetable-based oils using her exclusive
formulas.
Kelly Smith, along with some friends, started
creating soaps in 1997 as a hobby not realizing
that it would turn into her passion and
eventually a business. She was asked to
sell at a local craft fair and was amazed
when the soap sold. People really loved
the soap and came asking for more. Kelly
quit her job in 1998 and started Rubber
Ducky Soap Co. After a couple of years in
business she had some successes and some
failures. Kelly then sought guidance to
put her on the right path and searched for
other women who were looking to follow their
dreams. That is when Kelly signed-up for
Women's Intiative for Self Employment's
business management program. At Women's
Initiative Kelly found support and resources
to help her business grow. After graduating
in 2000 she was surprised and grateful that
she was not left standing alone. Women's
Initiative is in constant contact to help
nuture her and her business. Now using the
tools and resources that Women's Initiative
provided, Kelly and Rubber Ducky Soap Co.
are stronger than ever. You can often find
Kelly selling her soaps and bodycare products
at the Saturday Oakland Farmer's Market
or the Sunday Marin County Farmer's Market.
