Graduate Bio:
Louise Bartlett founded Beatnik Bags in 2002 to create distinctive, high-quality yoga mat bags, backpacks and accessories utilizing deliciously textured fabrics that inspire the beatnik in us all. Beatnik Bags are now sold in over 125 specialty stores, yoga studios and boutiques around the world. All Beatnik Bags are proudly made in San Francisco in a sweatshop-free environment utilizing durable upholstry fabrics and recycled materials. In 2004 Mayor Gavin Newsom and the California State Assembly named Beatnik Bags one of San Francisco’s Most Innovative Small Businesses of the Year. Louise is giving back to her community through her involvement with several Women’s Initiative volunteer projects, including initiating monthly "Business Buddies" meetings to help women business owners support and network with each other. She is also helping to develop Women’s Initiative’s Private Collection project. Louise says “Women's Initiative gave me the tools and the confidence to turn my dreams into a real business and the opportunity to help support other women in my community.”
