MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
THE OPPORTUNITY
Make a difference in the lives of women and their
families! Women’s Initiative for Self Employment
assists high-potential, lower-income women who
dream of business ownership. Women's Initiative
trains, funds and supports women entrepreneurs.
Through an intensive 20 session program —
in English or Spanish — women are enabled
to start, or expand their business. Then through
the SuccessLink program graduates are connected
with influential women in business, seminars,
potential financing and coaching.
Women’s Initiative is nationally recognized
as a pioneer in the field and was awarded the
2001 Presidential Award for Excellence in Micro
Enterprise and recognized as a Best Practice Organization
by the Urban Institute in 2007.
The organization is growing and looking to add
dynamic individuals to its team. As a successful
Marketing Communications Manager you will increase
the visibility for Women's Initiative programs
and overall impact as the agency expands statewide.
This position will manage projects in three areas:
marketing, public relations and outreach.
Specifically you will:
* Be responsible for developing, executing and
reporting on a marketing/PR strategy for Women's
Initiative
* Work closely with others on the Marketing team
to develop a targeted ethnic outreach strategy
for three new counties, including Los Angeles
* Build relationships with media contacts, partner
organizations and vendors throughout the Bay Area
* Manage the content of monthly eNewsletters,
web sites, My Women's Initiative, and blog
* Pitch news stories, write press releases, and
secure media coverage in top tier outlets in San
Francisco, Alameda, Santa Clara, and Contra Costa
counties
* Oversee advertising placement for print, radio
and broadcast
* Manage the development of marketing and fundraising
materials that are inspiring and appropriate for
our target markets
* Support agency events with photography, video
production and messaging help
* Oversee the writing of Graduate Spotlights featuring
women entrepreneurs and other content for information
packets, monthly eNewsletters and web sites
* Train staff on Women's Initiative brand standards
and key messages
* Seek out and secure speaking engagements and
awards for staff and board members at conferences
and other venues
* Conduct SWOT analysis for new and established
markets and update strategy accordingly
* Manage two talented professionals
Qualifications
* 4+ years of demonstrated marketing/communications
experience including working with the Bay Area
Latino community
* Capable of writing flawless and compelling marketing
copy (for web and print) and oversee others doing
the same
* Experienced at relationship building with members
of the media, and a proven track record for securing
results with press releases and pitches
* Knowledge of current design aesthetics or design
experience using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
and Quark Xpress, a plus
* Proactive, efficient communication skills with
ability to operate with high energy, flexibility
and enthusiasm
* High level of initiative, able to work on multiple
projects in a fast paced environment
* Passion for our mission and dedication to our
clients and their success
* Ability to aggregate and analyze data to make
marketing decisions and share results
* Demonstrated ability to relate well to people
of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field
* Bilingual English/Spanish, a plus
* Web design skills and knowledge of social networking
tools and web 2.0 capabilities, a plus
Compensation
Salary: DOE

This is a full time, exempt position based in
the heart of downtown Oakland. Full benefits package
