Small Business Trainer/Consultant
Reports to: Program Director
Hours required: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday,
including some evening hours
Salary: $50,000
Duties and Responsibilities
The Small Business Trainer/Consultant for Women's
Initiative's training program facilitates business
training and business development services for
low income English and Spanish speakers.
Specific duties are as follows:
• Facilitate business management training
classes (utilizing WI curriculum) to increase
participants'knowledge of business operations,
marketing and financial management. Impart problem-solving
skills to participants as they learn to define
their business ideas, assess business feasibility,
develop business plans, improve business management
skills, and maximize profit.
• Consult one-on-one with WI clients to augment
the skills learned in the workshops and to assist
participants in developing their business plans,
obtaining financing, problem-solving, and guiding
and monitoring business growth after training
and after borrowing.
• Assist WI clients to prepare applications
to the Women's Initiative Loan Fund and other
economic development agencies and institutions
that the SBT/C will have helped to identify. Help
clients prepare their presentations before the
lending committees. Review clients'business plans
and assist client to improve them as necessary.
Prepare consultant recommendation regarding packages
for WI lending committees.
• Prepare monthly reports on participant
consultations, including time spent and substance
of consultations. Maintain and monitor accurate
records on participants and business progress.
Work cooperatively with other WI staff to provide
services to WI clients which is informed, appropriate,
comprehensive and effective in assisting them
to become economically self sufficient.
• Provide input and assistance for curriculum
development and revisions.
• Participate in ongoing program development
and evaluation to existing and new WI programs.
• Offer services in both San Francisco and
Oakland locations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required
• BA degree in business or related field;
MBA highly desirable
• Bi-lingual ability (Spanish-English)
• Three years business ownership experience
• Two years business consulting or training
• Strong training/facilitation skills; knowledge
of adult participatory learning

• Sensitivity to issues facing low-income
women
• Commitment to agency's mission
• Ability to work on a team as well as independently
• High level of integrity, responsiveness,
professionalism and boundaries
