REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Two positions are open: East Bay and Silicon Valley

The Development Director leads all regional fundraising activities, responsible for building a successful alliance between the regional team and the agency’s centralized fundraising team to achieve our $2.2 M annual revenue goal for the region. We are seeking a Development Director who thinks big, knows how to raise large dollars and engage board members and the community as evangelists. The Development Director is responsible both for developing strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director and for successful execution of all regional activities, including managing donor relations and execution of cultivation and ‘ask’ events. The Development Director will train and motivate the regional team of staff, volunteers, and board members to attain their individual goals and as a highly-effective team achieve more than they could individually. This is a very hands on position; while managing profits and relationships there are no direct reports.

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director.

The Development Director is accountable first and foremost for the following:

  • Raising $2.2 M to fund operating expenses in the East Bay.
  • Raise a minimum of $500,000 in new money in 2010.
  • Building strong donor relationships that will lead to increased funding both in the coming year and over the long-term.

Responsibilities include and not limited to:

  • Build donor base, with a strategic focus on major gifts.
  • Manage individual donor relations: personally manage a portfolio of donors and work with staff to oversee all donor relations; drive prospecting and addition of new donors to the database.
  • Manage corporate donor relations: personally manage 10-20 corporate relations and work with board and staff to build corporate relations.
  • Ensure high caliber fundraising events that are consistent with the Women’s Initiative mission, build strong brand awareness, as well as raise desired $ goal.
  • With the Executive Director, build and maintain effective, motivated boards.
  • With the Marketing Director, build and maintain organizational presence and positive brand.
  • Serve as an external face for the organization, including public speaking, donor meetings, networking events, etc.
  • Ensure that all data entry in Raiser’s Edge is accurate and up to date—include conducting own administrative work and data entry.
  • Attend networking events to build presence and grow network.
  • Arrange site visits with donors, including preparing the meeting space and materials, arranging for necessary technology set-up, and ordering refreshments, etc. as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in fundraising; in lieu, may consider corporate sales experience
  • Able to inspire and evangelize Women’s Initiative mission
  • Good communicator and strong public speaking skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Results driven
  • Excellent PC skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Raiser’s Edge experience is strongly preferred.

This is a full time position based in the heart of downtown Oakland or in San Jose. Salary DOE. Benefits package includes significant PTO, health, dental and more.
