DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL GIVING AND EXPANSION

Women’s Initiative for Self Employment will be expanding into ten urban centers across the country and seeks an efficient and creative Director of Institutional Giving who can lead a team responsible for all institutional relationship building and grants management. In addition to working to build systems and drive performance with the Grant Writers team, the Director of Institutional Giving will drive institutional sources of funding to seed expansion. The Director of Institutional Giving and Expansion will report to the V.P. of Philanthropy and will lead a team of 2-5 foundation grant writers and government writers, the Corporate Relations Manager and the Corporate Relations Associate.

Responsibilities
Build the institutional giving program, raising $2M in new institutional gifts and achieving a 90% renewal rate in the first year. Create a replicable strategy for building corporate and foundation relationships in new markets. Cultivate national foundation for funding to support expansion and multiple markets. Women’s Initiative believes that much of the expansion funding will come from government sources. In collaboration with the VP of Philanthropy and the CEO the Director of Institutional Giving and Expansion will develop comprehensive strategy for achieving our government funding goals. Create systems increasing efficiency building on the systems in place especially in reference to Raiser’s Edge.

This position supervises a staff of 2 to 5 grant writers and two Corporate Relations personnel and is responsible for the hiring, training, motivation, evaluation, supervision and coaching of the team. S/he is also responsible for bringing in new prospective donors as well as analysis and reporting of grant compliance. S/he will train the team on prospecting, successful proposals and will review proposals and reports written by the Grant Writers. As the team lead, the Director of Institutional Giving and Expansion is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies and policies relating to grant proposals, their evaluation, tracking and relationship management. The Director of Institutional Giving and Expansion will create innovative opportunities which increase visibility and positioning both locally and nationally.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Passionate about Microenterprise with goal of becoming an expert in the field
  • Comfortable working with and drafting budgets.
  • Significant experience fundraising with a proven track record in meeting financial goals.
  • Masterful prospect research skills
  • Proven track record writing successful grants and reports.
  • Significant project management experience tracking large number of grants with competing deadlines
  • Develop complex reports and analyses using database and other tools.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing.
  • Organize information clearly and precisely.
  • Coordinate and work with other departments.
  • Coordinate the timing of projects.
  • Work under time constraints.
  • Supervise and manage staff.
  • Think critically and solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-moving work environment
  • Superior time management skills, including ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to people of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
  • Excellent computer skills including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred
